Very slow booting and running and braindead OS's 4525
No, I counted one user with multiple sign-ons as one user. If I would have been counting jobs or processes, I would have stated such. FWIW, though, I will also take issue with your above statement about sessions, since OS2200 supports things like transparent EXEC commands (or the specialized EXEC hacks that CTS and IPF both use) which allow a knowledgable OS2200 user to perform a few nifty tricks within a single DEMAND session that a UNIX user can't come close to matching without resorting to third-party terminal enhancement tools like "screen". I don't have to leave an application to perform certain OS functions at all under OS2200, and I also don't have to leave my chosen text editor (UEDIT, which supports ER QECL$ as well as the concurrent editing of hundreds of programs) to run other applications or utilities, or to do general shell commands-scripts-aliases. I can do all that from one place (the UEDIT command prompt), and when I'm done I'm popped back to my starting point automagically. Very slow booting and running and braindead OS's 4528 Yup. Here near the Jersey Shore in the summer and fall we lose power in thunderstorms and when any drunken college kid... Because of this, I can flip to a file manager, to a command prompt, to various ctags-like search tools (IACULL-FINDREF), and to numerous other things at whim by hitting a programmed function keys or typing a few characters at the editor prompt. Very slow booting and running and braindead OS's 4526 Here in alt.folklore.computers, A lot also depends on how you count "users", on the types of... I'll provide a more direct comparative example, since I currently do both Solaris and OS2200 development. I tend to have a dozen or so active windows (counting PuTTY windows and X clients) when developing and testing under Solaris at this point in time, but I will use perhaps five UTS windows max when doing OS2200+TIP development, and usually I use no more than two (one living in a DEMAND session to edit-compile, and one in TIP to test). More sessions simply aren't needed under OS2200, at least in most cases (and buttuming one has access to the toolset I do in that environment). -- Mainframe-Unix bit twiddler by day, OS-2+Linux+DOS hobbyist by night.
