A lot also depends on how you count "users", on the types of activities those users are performing, and (on some systems) on the clbuttification and nature of "users" that you're talking about in the first place.

BAH seems to buttume that all users on a system have to explicitly sign in and run at the same general priority or are otherwise somehow in the same general clbuttification as other users of the system, and that is decidedly NOT true on an OS2200 system which has TIP and DEMAND users.

A TIP user is more analogous to an external TUXEDO process than a UNIX user, and the only processes that generally show up as the result of TIP user activities are the transaction processes spawned by the TIP transaction manager in response to user keyins.

Otherwise, such users only exist as a series of status bits in an agent record resident in core somewhere, and while they usually have to sign in at some level, that info is not usually relayed to the EXEC.

The OS itself has no need to know about TIP users. That's really the TIP transaction manager's problem.

One could have 10,000 TIP users on the system, and console keyins would show nothing at all except for a high level of TIP transaction activity.
