Our '89 was a 2.2l turbo, which had to kick in just about any time you needed a decent amount of power. Repairing the turbocharger when it broke down was a nasty and expensive job, especially when one of the studs broke off. (A previous incident had stranded my wife 100 miles from nowhere on the way back from Port Hardy.) Like a "clunk" that shook the whole vehicle when you put it in gear.
