I disagree about the "almost all the way" part. But that's just from experience. YMMV. :-)

I understand this. It was what I was bemoaning before we got side-tracked into my learning about how the biz works today. 1. The only innovation is what the software allows; although this may be the only practical way to churn out designs, it causes innovation to go down to 0. 2. There are oodles of security hole possibilities in this process, especially an inability to bootstrap the process from a cold start.

I know. I'm trying to fix that. I consider this the second most serious problem. The first is losing the knowledge to deal with the second.

I understand that is how you do your job. I am talking about the cornerstone black box and the work needed to create that black box.

And I was trained and earned my supper making the last black box in down at the bottom. I also know how people think a little bit. The saying, "Out of sight, out of mind" is very true. It is the tradeoff that was made when gear started to become invisible to the human eye. It is getting so tiny that a CPU, or a whole computer system, can now be considered the equivalent of an RDA requirement, such as vitamin B12. It will not be unusal when a B12 component disappears and it takes a computer generation (about 5 years or less) to detect the missing piece. By then the ingredients to make that piece are long gone and forgotten because no human being ever knew; it was all done by software tools which were an atom of the vitamin lost.

That's the best I can do; I've been trying to think of one for the last four days.
