Not innovation. This allows the user to fit the square peg in the round hole thousands of times within the same wallclock time if he had to do the tries by hand. This isn't innovation; this merely trying permutations of a single set.

or the TV, or the Digital Cable Box (which does have a blue boot screen), or the Cable Modem...

sure. But this doesn't create a triangle shaped hole (if I may try to use my analogy). I dont know where this work is getting done. IBM used to have lots of money to spend on bizarre new things (this used to be called R and D which is not quite the same as real scientific research).

i've told stories before about automated regression tests for resource manager but that included a lot of validation of the resource management algorithms and control functions (under broad range of conditions, configurations, and workload...

Yes. I'm working on the sceanrio that all the modern processes and work flows have been rudely interruted. I don't see any way to make a warm start; everything I learn and think about requires a cold start. As a result all tiny tech is gone. This implies that, after 5 years, the knowledge of how to make it will be gone.

Oh, I'm not talking about reestablishing a commercial business; that would come much later.

There is a whole lot of work in that word "some". Establishing the infrastructure is not a trivial detail and would require extreme long-range planning, investment with no immediate return on investment.

Please note that I am not trying to make everybody change what he does. I'm merely working on the backup to the backup to the backup to the backup to the backup...to the backup plan. My hope is that number '...' is infinite.
