What ever happened to Tandem and NonStop OS 2026rpl SNIP Those don't even register for me. I've seen x86 kit to last me a couple of life times, I am not particularly interested in seeing more of it. What ever happened to Tandem and NonStop OS 2027 romp & rios were risc with no provisions for cache consistency ... i've commented that 801 design was somewhat reaction to hardware problems... I am interested in unusual processors, hence 9900, 65C816. Frankenputers like the Helix are interesting. I can't explain the Mac II FX thing though. AFAICT there was another Helix that built EEG systems consisting of a 3(?) 68Ks. Special purpose systems are also interesting. interesting information about Japanese Mini-Main-Super computers of the 70s, 80s and 90s. What blew me away most about those machines was the sheer quality of the engineering that went into them. One of the late 80s mainframes something that looks a bit like an exquisitely machined waffle iron to take heat away from a board stuffed with golden ECL chips... 4.5kW worth of heat and that was just *one* board from a very large multi-processor mainframe. They also did *big* MCM packages and diagonal routing in the early 80s as well. Stunning engineering, I wish I could have seen one of those brutes in the flesh ! Hopefully someone is preserving some of that kit, it is sensational stuff. Cheers, Rupert
