What ever happened to Tandem and NonStop OS 2076Eric Chomko The PDP11 line through the J11 was open. OEM's could and did buy the 11-73, 11-53 etc and use them. The T11 and F11 were also used. The problem is the management at DEC wanted to keep the high-profit VAX stuff for their own use only. I believe that's because they hired a large number of IBM types in management who didn't understand the OEM and Scientific and Real-Time markets need for the VAX at a price that would allow it to be used for communications controllers and such -- so they all moved to the 68k line (pdp11 like with a bigger addressing space) or the Intel 8086 and up. The DEC techies understood the risk here and they just couldn't get the management to see that closing off the Vax led to things like the Military working on their own Vax work alike (until the Militarized VAX from Ratheon got out there and GE, RCA and others were told that there What ever happened to Tandem and NonStop OS 2077 Here's another...
