Oh yes... never expect them to think. By suggesting to them that they use one particular format, the folkloric experience (*) will exaggerate to insistence on that format. After a while, they won't have any option but to use that format.

Unfortunately, humans make very poor automatons. That's why they're being replaced by computers and other machines. If their jobs haven't already been shipped to a lower-wage country.

Of course the problem isn't really with X at all; it's with "Z" that's being used by "X" (as a database engine) and "Z" is supported-certified on platform "Y"

Basically; "support" for "X" feels it much better to fob off a query on some pretext because they're too lazy-incompetent-greedy to investigate the problem.
