There's some sort of disconnect here. I've heard all sorts of horror stories about our health care system, and no doubt many of them are true. But whenever I or anyone I know has needed medical care, it's been provided promptly. Currently there's a lot of screaming about private providers, consisting of scare tactics about a "two-tier health system". But if people with the bucks want to pay for quicker service, why not let them get out of the queue and let the others bump up? Yes, there's the spectre of doctors flocking to private clinics, leaving the public system starved. But on the other hand, there already is queue-jumping, e.g. for Workers' Compensation Board cases, where it's more cost-effective to get people back to work. And, of course, any politician, no matter how loudly they decry the evils of a two-tier health system, will somehow find a way to get family and friends to the head of the line. (They hate it when the media find out.)
