You seem to fall into the same trap like a lot of people and think that high explosives are only "for killing people and blowing up stuff", i.e. for military and other non-peaceful uses. While carpet planting campaigns certainly burn through kilotons of explosives quickly (although for some reason, carpet planting has gone out of fashion lately), the military is by no means the largest consumer of high explosives in our world. Even to become a large consumer of high explosives, the military usually needs to get a major war up, which have, thankfully, gone a bit out of fashion too. Most explosives are used in civilian applications, like mining and demolition. Without high explosives: - no more deep mining, the supply of mined ores and materials slows to a trickle (the miniscule amount that can be gotten at without blasting), prices for metals explode, - no more blasting in construction of any kind, ok, that would be survivable, but it will make certain parts harder to do and others close to impossible, - you'll also loose certain security features of modern cars, like the crash triggered belt tensioning systems (which use tiny amounts of explosives to do their work), Where is balance Academic priorities 263 I remember from a course in oxygen safety the local firedept stated that oxygen fires are called that because of the relatively low flamefront speed; because the flamefront is moving in a...
