Hey, I didn't write this narrative, it was a direct quote. They evidently picked up the extinguisher prior to entering the room if one carefully parses the above...
I remember from a course in oxygen safety the local firedept stated that oxygen fires are called that because of the relatively low flamefront speed; because the flamefront is moving in a more energy-saturated medium. O2 fires will only pick up flamefront speed if there is adiabatic compression. Or if it happens in liquid oxygen.
The firedept representative went on to tell us that we now were enlightened, but would have to bear over with any O2 fire witnesses that usually were very persuasive in calling the phenomenon they observed an explosion. We were told not to argue with such observers.
This is a part of the PC movement that is picking up pace. They started not wanting to have nuclear weapons or hunt whales; both of which have very sound reasons. Then it went all the way to peaceful nuclear power; even where radioisotopes are lifesavers (smoke detectors and medical use); and we are now not supposed to eat such a lot of animals. The reasons do not seem to be rational, they are preceptional and emotional.
Disney shows such a cute duck; cannot eat Crispy Duck then. (watch us!).
It applies to all "power science" as well; the part where you CAN get hurt.
