I am not a fan of gun control, but I think it's stupid for there to be blanket exemptions for retired or even active police officers. By extension, this logic should, for example, permit certain Air Force personnel to own personal nuclear ICBMs.

I have long been an outspoken opponent of certification in computing and other professions. There is clear and widespread evidence that certification is no obstacle to malpractice or even deliberate fraud. It merely reflects a "jump through hoops" approach to things which are best learned and demonstrated through mentoring and realistic ongoing evaluation by both peers and customers-consumers. In many cases it only leads to highly parasitic "industries" devoted solely to certification, testing and "training" to pbutt the certification tests, while sucking up educational buttistance funds which could be better spent otherwise.

Humans have an absurd degree of supersbreastion when it comes to the purported ability to predict future behavior. This leads to oppression, authoritarianism and, yes, certification.

Of course some will say, well, what would we do without certification? About the same as we do with it, only at lower overall cost.

It all goes back to the fallacy of misapplying population statistics to try to guarantee the outcomes of individual events.
