Where should the type information be: in tags and descriptors 451Neither was our niche. One of our problems was that we were ignoring our niche and trying to be something we weren't.
Where should the type information be: in tags and descriptors 452 vm370-cms contribution to vms. in the early 70s, customers were buying up vm370-cms and the development group was growing like mad. the group had first absorbed the boston programming center and... And declaring that VMS is the one, and only one. And declaring that BLISS is the one, and the only one. And declaring that DECnet is the one, and only one stopped all internal compebreastion. So the internal compebreastion became empire building and nothing got done well. You mean percentage of the total. I never saw happening. Instead all we saw (from Marlboro) was bloat inflation. Look, TOPS-10 manpower was 2-1-2. TOPS-20 manpower was 12. VMS manpower was 200. The 10 group produced five times more than the -20 group. The -20 group produced at least 5 time more than the VMS group. Just getting a functional spec pbutted in VMS land took three to four years. To get a spec pbutted in the 20 group took months. To get a spec pbutted in the -10 group took less than 5 mintues. (I'm talking about formal review time.) We should have had less, not more, doing development.
I don't know about this. It seemed that the more we got automated, the less we got done. BAH Subtract a hundred and four for e-mail.
