Very true, but not that surprising, under the circumstances. :-)

They certainly weren't (or didn't seem to be) an every-day part of life for the kid that I was at the time. I'm pretty sure there were no microprocessors of any sort in the family house or car before the TRS-80 arrived. Maybe a four-bitter or two in calculators. Washing machines still ran on clockwork. Radio receivers were all-analog, with variable capacitor tuners.

Exactly. After all: Intel had to have written iRMX for something... I just wanted to get a handle on installed numbers, and applications. I imagine that things like radio station automation and some early mini-computer replacement would have gone on.

Well, there wasn't much of a consumer PC industry in 1975, so the large-scale embedded controller business probably had a head start.

Sure. And exactly that sort of thing would have eventually been used for controlling stuff. Mostly from card cages and racks, but eventually smaller.

Most of these were still bespoke systems, though, weren't they? The total numbers would have been fairly small?

I guess that the hobby, games console and home computer markets were pretty small at the time too.

I think that I'm confused about the Series 80... I was remembering a list of systems that they gave me in school 30 years ago. I guess the memory is first to go! Checking...

I know this dates me very accurately. That's why reading afc is so fascinating. Thanks.
