I'm really replying to two separate but... But if you have never used the full screen directory functions that are RDRLISt and FILELIST and the sname-stype-smode commands then you would not appreciate how powerfull a 3270 was. The things you could do with those and few well defined PF keys and a quick REXX exec. Then when you add in the prefix area and block moves and copies. If you really wanted to fly you might try split screen editing when you want to look at multiple files. Don't tell me you print it out! I will admit you needed a Co-ax attached local terminal, but once you had one you could stick line mode in dark place where no one wandered. I still miss some of these things on Windows and Solaris, but for some reason Thomas Hessling Editor (THE) or even EMACS which provide much of the equivalent functionality do not seem to cut the mustard in the same way as the above did.... When on Windows I find myself using Explorer and PFE32, which I am sure are not as good. (though again the old right click and open with....) I have done some ergonomic analysis of that, and my conclusions are that, yes, it is much more attractive, even to me - but I have no idea why! Working that way is... Cheers Dave
