Where should the type information be 179Where should the type information be 180 Herman Rubin I just mean a not-particularly-complex program that looks for and changes your symbology into the functions... Herman Rubin Are you familiar with the concept of a pre-compiler ? I have no idea. Given your e-mail addy I would buttume you would have a better handle on the subject. Which was about as far as I understood it (therefore don't hire *me*) Why? There are no real-world uses for that that I can tell. The only analogy I can come up with is the way companies keep spamming people because it isn't costing them anything and eventually probability states that you will click on a link, even if only by accident. Uh-huh... why don't you try doing it one step at a time; either develop the language to make it really elegant first or develop the solution first on "second rate" languages-systems then work on reducing-transforming the algorithms you come up with into something machine efficient. It's quite concise; what happens and how long each buttembler instruction takes are very precisely documented. As a math prof, you would probably be most qualified to develop-use the algebra-calculus involved to discern which of a set of theoretical equations would produce the fastest throughput on any given computer architecture. While I applaud your efforts to "doing something right the first time" the alternative, that you appear to be stating, is doing nothing which has no merit. rpl
