Academic priorities 243 Circa 1900 High School curricula were set without much input from "math professors", the people teaching, and those taking, high school mathematics were more interested in those math skills that could... One day I was making this same point to my kids as we were driving along. They asked for examples, whereupon I started pointing out the numerous technical violations in my own driving. Of course, each explanation was interrupted by another notice of a new technical violation, etc. We then discussed the prospect of driving LEGALLY - sometimes possible, e.g. to get a driver's license, but very often not due to the many situations people often find themselves in where there is no 100% legal way to proceed, e.g. yellow lights that are too short. Then it came time to move our 40 foot motor home, where for example there was absolutely NO WAY of making a legal right turn, and many other traffic laws that are reasonable for cars had to be routinely violated. Why didn't the police stop us every mile or so? Because they also knew there was no way of driving such a vehicle while obeying all of the traffic laws. The vehicle was legal, I was legal, so therefore I was not responsible for unavoidable violations of the law, especially when in the interests of safety, e.g. intentionally driving down the dividing line between lanes to block both lanes when for some reason (narrow lanes, turns, etc.) I could not stay completely within just one lane.
