Why I use a Mac, anno 2006 3733
Correct, that's why it has 99.999999999999999999% of the Viruses, it just wasn't design for how it is being used...

Windows wasn't designed to be put on a network from the get go. Windows became the dominant platform over time. The Mac shed market share, like a chemo patient shed his-her hair in the 70s (doesn't happen as much any more). Apple had the luxury to go from 68k to PPC, to Intel. Through this, it went from OS9x to OS X. Apple could make their system a little more secure because its loyal follower lemmings would wait around and still buy Macs, no matter what. Businesses and the real world cannot afford to see radical changes in Windows,at least not in the scale of what Apple has done with its OSs an hardware. I bet you that if MS could rewrite its OS, it would probably affect the global economy on a great scale. Apple could change its hardware-OS at any moment and still be in business.

This fact paired with the relative obscurity of Macs, makes for a safer platform for Mac users. OTOH, it is more than *simple* to keep a PC spyware and malware free, no matter how loud the Maccies screech that it simply isn't so.
