Hope not.. for reasons that may be appearent with time. Just been reading a message in soc.culture.syria about trouble with children being charged with `not respecting basheer buttad' (or something like that), the location was given as Western Kurdistan, better known to the rest of the World as Eastern Syria. Affairs are VERY complicated out there. I would think that both Iran and Syria are sitting back, laughing at the deeper and deeper mess the US has got into in 'Iraq.

Plausible scenario. Prison cell, somewhere in Iraq, bearded, elderly gent is washing. (He keeps nervously checking for hidden cameras). Knock on door, guards enter with civvie type, who starts..

"Ehh, Saddam, I hope you didn't take that little war too seriously?" "What about my sons?" "These things happen in politics, you know that!" "Well, what do you want then?"

"Ehhhhhhhhhhhh, we were wondering, Dweeb and the rest of us, would you consider taking back control for a few weeks, just until we can get the boys out. We can provide air support, all that. Whaddcha think?"..
