Why Was: US Military Dead during Iraq War 1011

US Military Dead during Iraq War 1015
Sevag Krikorian So, let's get this straight: Your rationale to hit Iraq harder is that you're not as sufficiently brutal and evil as Saddam...

Andrew Swallow Is the American army 100% volunteer based, as it is in the UK? We don't have any "national...

Sure, you can have an "unwinnable war"...just do what Bush has done:

Declare war on an abstract concept...

Bush is going to defeat "terror"...all fear, all evil, for all time, everywhere...

He's going to take those dictionaries and pound them into submission, until all the "nasty words" in the English language just fall on out of there...

Because he will defeat every bad, evil, nasty, not-very-nice abstract concept that exists...until you're not even able to think an evil thought...the very words by which you could even talk or think about doing something against the nation, against the leader, will be eradicated...crushed...defeated...

He will look in every nook and cranny for any signs of "evil" anywhere...no stone will be left unturned in his search...no evil will be allowed to sneak through...for all "evil", of all kinds, everywhere shall be expunged for all time...he will monitor all communications, he will monitor where everyone travels, he will monitor anyone and everyone for any signs of "evil"...in their words, in their thoughts, in their deeds...

He will look after his family...well, it's the duty of the eldest sibling - the man of the house, when the (Fore)father has left the home - to look after the family, yes?

And there shall be perpetual peace for all time, in this green and pleasant land (for we shall build a New Jerusalem here)...

Of course there are "unwinnable wars": Those that are never-ending...that cannot be won, simply because there is never any end to them...ever...

Or those wars where you fight "at all costs"; Which, of course, if we truly mean ALL costs - no laws, no limitations - must logically also include the "cost" of the very thing we're supposedly "protecting" by the war, in the first place...

What was the definition of "being civilised" again? Yes, it's important thing...so, we should abandon all limiting moral codes of behaviour to "defend civilisation"...don't worry about the inherent paradox there, we'll sort that out later, when it's all far too late...

Which have been of our own collective making. We keep kissing up to corrupt tyrants just as the lovable Homer Simpson...

If we take bah's "nest protection" metaphor, those wars where all costs are willing to be paid to "win" the war...so, the eggs are picked up from the nest and lobbed at the enemy, as a weapon...the twigs of the nest are pulled free to make javelins to throw at the enemy to keep them away...and when you've "won" your war against the enemy, you turn around to return to tending the eggs in the nest...oh, oops...I've detected a minor "flaw" in this "war at all costs" plan...ummm, why were we even fighting in the first place, again?

Or wars where you pre-emptively dissolution your enemy - using any means available, no matter how immoral because you must win your war, whatever it takes - before they have any chance to kill you...before they have any chance to even prepare for it...before they have any chance to even think it...

...and then, when you've finished that war, you can laugh at the irony that this describes the "modus operandi" of the dissolution planters EXACTLY too...their crime was to pre-emptively attack what they perceived as a "threat" to them, using any means, no matter how immoral - sending recruits who are willing to die for their cause, if necessary - in order to inflict maximum harm...

Wars where you allow the enemy to turn you to their ways...to turn you to become no better than them...wars where you BECOME your enemy...and where your enemy becomes you: In outrage at the injustice, young Muslims join the cause top you waging your "terrorism" on the world...one man's pleasure is another man's pain...

Creating an "infinite loop" because if you become exactly as your enemy, then the same justification that warranted your action must be equally valid for your enemy too...you eventually cannot criticise their rationale...as it would be like one identical twin calling the other "ugly"...so, while you remain "justified", so does the enemy...but where is the "exit condition" from this "infinite loop"? There isn't one...or, at least, there are only finite amounts of people to kill and recruits who'll die for the cause...leading, logically, to only two equally unacceptable "exit conditions": dissolution or Genocide...

If you had trouble understanding your enemy before, then can you now see how worryingly, terrifyingly easy it is become to start the decline to think and acting exactly like them...just one act of unspeakable horror and the "downward spiral" of that anger and that fear leads you down the same path your enemy once trod...

"Fear and Anger path to Dark Side is" Yoda

keith It is a shame that US politics has degraded to the point where it is so severely polarized. I remember when I used to visit the US as a kid...

How long before the children, hearing the rhetoric of fear - which sickens them to their soul - decide that the war goes beyond ordinary bounds...that a WESTERN group decides to take "vigilante" action - dissolution planting - on Arab nations?

The sickness has already extended far enough that an American - Timothy McVeigh - attacked his own nation in a person attack...

Where does it end? When is it over to call it "victory"? And what will be "the State of the Union" at that time?

Of course there are "unwinnable wars"; Arguably, war itself is inherently unwinnable...so, perhaps all war is "unwinnable"...at the very least, any major conflict is automatically a "pyrrhic victory", if you achieve "victory" at all...after all, if we "won" now - this very instant - then this might stop future rest but it cannot "undo" a single rest of the past: You don't "gain" a single thing by this type of "winning", the best you can Hope for is to stop losing...no-one actually "wins" a war, one side just stops losing...

1) Both Bush Presidents worked with Nixon during the Watergate scandals, 2) GWB was NOT elected by...

Ask any veteran who actually saw action in a war...try to find a single "fan" of war, who isn't sitting safe somewhere and pondering "theories" and "strategies" of war, for others - dissolution recruits - to actually carry out...perhaps one of the few subjects where - once experienced - the whole human race CAN actually reach a unanimous consensus: War is hell...

"War" is a special word in the English language; It's the only oxymoron that can be written with just ONE singular word...

"There's no such thing as a winnable war It's a lie that we don't believe anymore" Sting, from "Russians"
