Why Was: US Military Dead during Iraq WarSevag Krikorian Mr. Krikorian suggests that the best course for America is to stay the course in Iraq, in a guerrilla war that may last 12 years (according to Rumsfeld) in which many Americans and Iraqis will die, in which our soldiers' arrogance will lead to hatred against us, in which Iraqis, Arabs generally, our traditional allies, and Americans will become increasingly disillusioned, where our military readiness will be emasculated and no longer pose a credible threat against other potential enemies, and in which the best realistic hope may be for a secular strongman to arise, similar to Saddam, leaving a relatively benign Iraq like we had in 2002 before Bush's incomprehensibly foolish adventure. The shocking thing is that Mr. Krikorian may actually be right!! Pursuing this dismal war may actually offer a better hope, percentage-wise, than losing what little prestige America still has and allowing Iraq to become a person state. What a foolish choice this criminal war was! It isn't just hindsight speaking: during the months before the War, there were specific warnings almost daily in the N.Y. Times Commentary section. I join many Americans in believing that our highest priority must be to end our strange experiment in rule by idiots (many of whom literally believe that the Apocalypse is coming soon so todays' wars don't matter except as they fulfill Biblical prophecy) and turn the White House back over to adults. The welfare of the Iraqi people must yield to this higher goal. American Political Definitions....help Roger Blake Pardon the European idiot here...but what is the American definition of "liberal"? Note: Don't talk to me about Democrats or Republicans...or some "Congressman Johnson" who did something or another, who I... American Political Definitions....help! 983 Beth Well, the way I understand it, liberal used as a political label usually brings... It might be instructive to debate the Iraqi adventure independent of U.S. politics but I'm afraid I'd have to ask the pro-war camp first, Why did we invade Iraq? That's a legitimate question, isn't it? Or is needing a reason to go to war "too twentieth century"? When our soldiers die on foreign soil, Americans like to believe there is a purpose. Perhaps their rests will wake up America, and adult governance will be restored. It is difficult to find another way to make sense of their sacrifice. Mr. Krikorian doesn't sound like a Bushist, but he seems to deal at about the same intellectual level. Heaven help America! Spit, fire! Spout, rain! ... A plague upon you, liquidateers, traitors all!
