Why does my address appear as part of my name 2504Jeremy C B Nicoll Why does my address appear as part of my name 2505 See now here's where I think you're a troll... while I have no contacts at the company... Why does my address appear as part of my name 2506 If you view the source HTML for a particular page when you're viewing it ("at Google") what you'll... I began to understand that yesterday. Also, I gather that "Usenet" is a collective name covering initiatives of different origins, while Google is a rationally built commercial company. Do you mean the Google archives? They are wonderful. In the past, it would not have been possible to see people talking so spontaneously about serious subjects. There is a lot of fun in that, immense. But I also found a lot of really great writing, much better than what you find in things sold as literature. I have a real collection.
The same as the big news papers. It has taken the New York Times and the Herald Tribune a long time to decide how to charge without losing audience=advertising income; now they both have started to charge for articles written by their star journalists, while the general information remains free. I know, and what about the Big Brother spook? With this new address I have been here for only a few days. When I come in, they show me a list of suggestions based on the search history they have concocted. The suggestions were not too bad, all except one: Jehova's witnesses. Now, how the hell.....? (Probably because when lookinfg for views on the French immigrant problem, I l touched down amidst a Mormon group.) But that kind of thing could be dangerous in many ways. When mentioning "HTML" you always say "wrap". I know what HTML is, and I even know how to write it, but why do you picture it as being "wrapped around" a text? I would have imagined it was behind or underneath the "surface" text. The search results at Google groups come without ads. There are ads in the margin. In a general web search the information coming from private companies is often useful.
Why does my address appear as part of my name 2507 Jeremy C B Nicoll In its source code, the text is seen to be *surrounded... But money does not a priori soil a source. Google is very spunky. They keep having new ideas. The home page is singular, so much white space without ads and those pretty letters and colours. And the way they play with the letter graphs to mark special days. I cannot think of any other big US company that would have tried to put a little beauty in its advertising space. But that is not in itself bad at all. The question is how. Altruism may be good or necessary locally, but on a large scale or even internationally it is either impossible or counter-productive or even dangerous.
