See now here's where I think you're a troll... while I have no contacts at the company, how do you define a company as "rational" or "irrational" ?

Yes. Again, the HTML interface sucks too much to be useable to me.

Umm... unless you were one of those people (?)

Every few months a gem will appear as somebody falls for the temptation to put forth, prosaically.

What subject areas do you look in ?

They could do that in NNTP, but it would be a little awkward and there wouldn't be room for advertising.

I don't get it... I've taken it for granted that all major governmental intelligence services keep their finger on the pulse so to speak since the inception of digital communcations media for publicly transmitted stuff.

And just like at the post office it's *possible* for letter-handlers to open your mail, it's just as possible for sysops all along the line to look at your electronic meanderings.

There's already judicial mechanisms in place for access from policing agencies; in "the free world" it will take a warrant signed by a duly appointed judge agreeing with the investigating agency's request for information.

But the "free world" appelation doesn't seem to be worth much; there's all sorts of legislation in the works to force ISP's to invest their own capital in monitoring equipment. I don't see where they have a leg to stand on, to be honest. But I'm growing cynical in my old^Wmiddle age.

what problem and why would it be dangerous

Computer term. "Self contained translator" is the closest I can think of for a definition.

If you view the source HTML for a particular page when you're viewing it ("at Google") what you'll generally see is: a) a definition of what sort of HTML follows...

For instance my graphics card has it's own complete language. But it doesn't do GL so part of the driver is a "GL wrapper" that translates from GL to my graphics card's already complete language.

Not that I've noticed. The margin is what about 20% of the readable page ? That's in line with other commercially sponsored media (magazines, newspapers)

The bases of all the cultures that I can think of offhand, historically information and record-keeping is handled by clericals: monks in Europe and Asia, medicine-men in the southern hemisphere, not by independent businesses. fast-forward to today and it's universities and public libraries.

Huh ? Name one that wasn't pre-existing... I don't just mean "old school" stuff, either.

You bet I don't -- but, alas, I've made the experience that more often than not the whole German-speaking area needs to be referred to. And as far as langauge is concerned...

In Google's case it's by weighting search results. This isn't just a theory, they've been called on it several times.
