Why does my address appear as part of my name 2509Why does my address appear as part of my name 2510 were is the important word here. Germany was not an orderly state before 1990. Germany was the last major nation in Europe to be united, and there were... You bet I don't -- but, alas, I've made the experience that more often than not the whole German-speaking area needs to be referred to. And as far as langauge is concerned, I prefer including the whole of the area, for Austrian and Bavarian belong to the same ("bairisch") group of dialects while Schwyzerduetsch is closely related to South-Western German both in terms of phrasing and pronounciation. So it is pretty difficult to delimit the whole thing along the borders of any of these countries. Nowadays? *Very* little German is spoken in Poland nowadays, and they'd rather say "guten Tag" if anything; as for the former Soviet Union, most of the German-speaking from were "repatriated" after three to seven generations during the 1980s and 90s -- a once-in-a-lifetime chance for a visa to (realtively wealthy) Germany that many (and nearly all of the younger) people grasped. They, too, would rather say "guten Tag" than anything, not unlike the German-speking in Romania did and do, for -- if we may simplify just a bit -- the "gruess Gott" etc greetings are pretty much limited to the catholic areas in Southern Germany.
