Good. I will look. I am pretty sure at this point that the problem is not so far back, but has to do with my (recent) re-registration at Google groups where I may have given my name plus address as "user name"

Phil Weldon This is only to let you know that I tried, but have not yet been successful. I thought that in...

If you are posting through Google's web interface, consider using just your newsreader and your ISP access to Usenet. Usenet is composed of tens of thousands of newsgroups that are quite easy to access and use without the buttistance of a 'value added' corporation like Google. If you look, you will find that quite a few commercial or semi-commercial websites fold Usenewsgroups into their pages as 'forums' to help generate search hits and ad views. You can get the same thing, much more cleanly (and, in your case, evidently more safely) with just a newsreader (Outlook Express, Mozilla, Forte, ... )and either the Usenet newsgroup access provided by your ISP or a separate service that can be had free or at a very reasonable price. This newsgroup, even though it is 'sponsored' by Microsoft, and can be accessed through a Microsoft website, is defacto a Usenet newsgroup that exists outside the control of Microsoft. Microsoft could cancel all participation and support of this newsgroup, yet it would still exist as long as thoughtful people posted, just because Usenet is sort of built into the structure of the internet.

Do yourself a favor and use a search engine to call up information on Usenet, its development, and how to use it. It is uncensored, unregulated as to content, and inexpensive for individual access. It is a valuable resource, and a source of irritation. Full of the same people you meet everyday, with all that implies. You'll find all levels of knowledge, socialization, writing ability, pedantry, atbreastude, and honesty, Some newsgroups thrive, some become hollow haunts of spam. The best ones develop an ad hoc peer review, with questionable information called, and questionable behaviour moderated.
