XBOX 360 2563Won't we be creating "alphabets" to preserve languages that has to include pronunciation cues? Let me reask this question. Won't we have to have a computer alphabet that has to include pronunciation cues? emoticon rereads both questions I'm still not writing clearly enough-grumble. But wasn't this still inadequate? I'm buttuming that it was inadequate because a new one had to be proposed. I suppose I should do some real research and read these specs. If you use this approach won't you have to define a number for each differnt slant of a pictograph? And whether it tapers up or down or in the middle? My point was that you can't store the LSB off in the boondocks. It has to be "close" to the primary sorting character, like the next byte. So how do you find these characters when the user wants to sort by switching the secondary character with the primary? And we have a gazillion "coders" doing it all differently. My point is that there may be rules but these rules have never been part of the standard. It was an implicit rule because of the way the numbers were buttigned. IOW, the charcter coded 040 was sorted to occur before characters coded 041. There wasn't any question about what increasing and decreasing meant. XBOX 360 2564 This reminds me of a rather funny incident. Sometime in late 70's at one of the international trade shows in Moscow I saw a gadget... No. I think you are misinterpreting my intentions :-). XBOX 360 2565 Sigh! To enforce their brand of socialism, they had to involve government. This becomes a flavor of communism... Well, in my day, considering the methods of implementation was a major part of the design. If there wasn't any way to implement it, it didn't get into the spec. Then do a merge. I don't know. I don't think much of this work got done until after printing press existence and reading ability stopped being a capital crime. It is certainly true that this is a bit of knowledge I didn't even know I didn't know. So that gives you a measure of my ignornace; I started to wonder if this is a reason the biz keeps having to redo its alphabet. BAH
