That is all about marketing. You cannot "just" have a protest, you must capture the imagination of the silent majority; persent good video and sound bites to the media, perks to the politicians and jobs for the administration.

If the personal morals of the top leaders should be a guideline we should have lost WW2. Remember, the German leader was close to an ascetic; although he did drink it was very rarely, he had half a glbutt of champagne when they entererd Paris, and he barely touched meat. He considered tea with crumpets an indulgence. The Italian leader was hooked on exercise, and considered tobacco or drinking a waste of a good workout possibility. The Japanese leader WAS an ascetic, and never ate meat. (he did eat fish). Contrast the American, British and Russian leaders who frequently downed a bottle of spiritus before lunch, and where the parties always where spectacular in their food, booze and smokes.

And the worst part is not that he became governor. He was indeed the better candidate. that is the scary bit.

And the US is already among the 20 largest muslim nations, and even top 10 if you count regular mosque-goers. Time to cenebrate Id-al-fitr.

Fortunatly the sound of the US scare hasn't turned as much inwards as looking for persons everywhere.

The western ways are slowly advancing. Now more than half the worlds population live in what can reasonably be called democracies. The "half way" mark was the bloodless revolution in Indondesia.

The monarchies, the colonies, the empires, the fascists and the commies have been dealt with one by one. Now we have the New Chinese emperiors, the muslim reactionaries and the lawless tribes, mostly african, left.

Only she gets to hold TV speeches every christmas. I am sure mr Gates would love to do that.

Just see how the Chinese government struggles with the Internet. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't allow it.
