I don't think "idiot" is the right word for that - it was SOP for the Germans at that point. They did that in Finnish Lapland too. Anything they didn't burn down, they typically mined, if they had time. Usually they had, what with scrapping bridges and laying mines being a lot quicker than rebuilding the bridges and clearing the mines... XBOX 360 2611 It is my word for it. But then I don't anything about war or tactics or strategies. Why? If something was that bad, didn't people just raze the area and build? Sane individuals working... It'd have been faster to rebuild if they'd just leveled everything. Some years after the war, some of the German soldiers came back and said ... guess it's safe for us to admit disobeying orders now". That's how the Kuusamo church still has some pre-WWII items, for example. That's by no means a given. What prevents the other side from forming unions as well? The idea is to not let any given union grab that much power. You obivously need a farmers' union and an employers' union, or something like that. And a self-employeds' union separate from the farmers. The elected government can then play the unions against each other. That's what ours does, anyway. I rather thought that that particular part belonged to the totalitarianism, which admittedly has often been seen along with communism, but still ... -- #Not speaking for my employer. No warranty. YMMV.
