Anything they didn't burn down, they typically mined, if they had time. Usually they had, what with scrapping bridges and laying mines being a lot quicker than rebuilding the bridges and clearing the mines...

The idea is to not let any given union grab that much power.

You obivously need a farmers' union and an employers' union, or something like that. And a self-employeds' union separate from the farmers.

The elected government can then play the unions against each other. That's what ours does, anyway.

I rather thought that that particular part belonged to the totalitarianism, which admittedly has often been seen along with communism, but still ...
