I'm talking about the minute daily details of living.

Sure. I had no intention of saying that these didn't exist. My point was that people reared in Western civilization will not be able to comprehend the cultures of those who have been told what to do every day all their lives. People in Western civilization are used to making mundane decisions such as which shoes to buy. Muslims have never had this kind of training. Now consider a population of millions who have never had to make decisions of a certain kind. Then they are exposed to more than one kind of shoe style. With today's tech, they are exposed to all kinds of shoe styles, yet only one is approved by the Shariah interpreters.

A small percentage of this population will be ideologues who honor the "old ways". A majority will look at the shoes and wish they could buy a pair. Another small minority will buy them despite social pressures to not sin. Since wearing shoes is a practical matter, the ideologues will begin to lose ground and the majority of the people will make their own decisions about which shoe they will wear. Since these millions learned that they could make one decision for themselves, they will make another and another.

This is why the extemists are violent, worried and doing every thing they can to destroy Western civilization.

I wrote that badly. The Church elders did not boss the kings around by law.

I'm not talking about a state church. I'm talking about the church elders making all the state's decisions and all the daily decisions that the people will encounter.
