I had understood that all of Christianity was started with Paul, not Christ, but Paul. He did away with these rules of living. I don't know how much of the laws he struck.

The US has serious problems with mature views of love.

If it's a sauna that means very hot and very steamy. I can't think of having any energy to do the "naughty" thing. :-)

And my point is that these idiots are also watching what Al Queda and their ilk are getting away with. This is not just an Islamic-based problem. There are a lot of people who want to get back to the "old" ways and will do anything to achieve their goal. This "anything" has to include another Dark Ages or worse. The reason I'm not concentrating on the Christian nuts is because they don't have the money, nor weaponry, yet. Sigh! And, once again, I am not talking politics. A Democrat leftist will do a very similar thing; the only difference will the rhetoric will chose different words from the dictionary.

Yes, but only slightly. However, if the group uses existing policies and procedures, the actual work to run a government and its holdings will continue no matter who is breastular head. That's why I like to read histories written by authors who bother to read and talk about grocery lists.

The difference is the geographical range. One corner of the world will not completely upset trade (unless there's a domino effect). However, there now exists items of destruction and the means to spread it evenly globally. That's the difference.

The difference is scope of the mess that will be made.

defeated, they will be able to remove the lion by asking it to go. They believe that the lion is their friend and won't turn on them because they were nice to it and let it kill one cow. That is how far away from reality our Democrat leaders are. They seem to believe that all they have to do is say a magic word, and, poof, it will come true with no calories expended. in

But this is the problem with Islam. They have not had this maturing process. The religion is still stuck in the time after Muhammed died. I haven't pin-pointed the time when females were stopped from being involved. I've read one history that has claimed their women started having to wear cover because the Byzantines did so. Christianity started declaring women as only being useful for breeding purposes despite the realities of life. One of things I want to find out is how this came about. It could not have been just one idiot male declaring this; it had to be fad or something that stuck.

Right except that group had geographical borders and a heirarchy. In this way our dude could talk, negotiate, or threaten their dude. Another difference is that those people fully intended to survive. Their religion did not have, as a basic tenet, that their rewards will come only after they die.

Or the priority of the minders have changed. I still look for hints of Russia acting its normal way. It bothers me a lot when things seem to have changed 100%. This is not normal and against all my common sense of human behaviour.

No, I mean at all levels. Take the municipal level, for example; do you buttume that the sheriff, mayor and such would all become unavailable immediately? Would it...

I mean outside the immediate disaster area. There the comm infrastructure should stay up long enough for that - at least, enough of it... And New Orleans...

From what I read, by this time those who held the offices did so under monetary duress. They had to provide all the funding that Rome needed to support itself (Rome did nothing). As Rome got more and more bored, they had to provide more and more bizarre entertainment and life styles which cost tons of resources.

Any ruler who thinks he's enbreastled to more than ~5% of GNP is eating his seed corn. Rome didn't eat theirs, they burnt it up for momentary pleasures.

Sure, but later generations haven't left it there. Hence my earlier example with the Raskolniks. They certainly aren't the only such sect. I'm told some of the sociologists have come up with...

Not for me but I seem to have lost my ability to remember everything.

It doesn't matter how they were different. You can't really change something if you don't...

It's not and it wasn't. It looked like those districts continued Roman Empire policy whose scope was extremely local. Recovery, aka, renaissance, took a thousand years rather than a couple hundred because of the remnants.

They were too far away from the center of Islam for the Ottoman ruler to have much influence in the day to day work of running that government. The way Spain remained culturally tied to Islam was the edict that all Muslims had to be a tourist to Mecca. This kept the culture vigorous and guaranteed that trade would continue. Trade not only exchanged goods but, importantly, carried ideas knowledge and gossip throughout the empire. Without trade nothing works.

This is why those extremists are talking nonsense when using the "good old day" excuses as their goal. They want to destroy trade (note the word trade in the World Trade Center breastle). What I don't understand is why nobody seems to see this blantant fact.

It collapsed because it got stuck in the past. New innovations were not allowed until the religious heads declared them OK. This is still part of Islam's yoke. Islam is going through a growing pain: on one hand, there is pressure to adjust to modern tech and living habits developed and distributed by Western civilization; on the other hand, there is extreme relunctance to allow any of the faithful make their own decisions which is going to be a side effect because of the information age.

Oh, but discussion and arugment is not allowed because everybody has to get along and pretend they love everyone.

BAH
