Did you know that flood insurance, as reported by one of those Representatives was $200-year? Mine was $800-year (this was in 1996ish) and I'm not in a flood plain. I haven't heard anybody who paid the insurance and is collecting. I have heard that alot, if not most, are getting benefits as if they had paid.

I'm not sure what ours might be as I live north of the railroad tracks, but if you live down here along the coast highway, its expensive. Its: Gulf of Mexico, beach, US-90, houses and businesses, the railroad tracks, more homes and businesses, and eventually Interstate highway 10. What ever it is they pay, its probably over $1,000 a year. The railroad tracks, in some locations, is built up and acts as a breakwater. Mississippi wants to buy the right of way from the railroad, and put in a road. Making a new road that goes through all the towns, creating another connector road. There are only three at present, one is US-90, the other is the Interstate highway, the third is Pbutt Road-28th street. A number of people whose houses were spared major damage this time are not happy about that idea of getting rid of the railroad. Allegedly it would be moved north of Interstate 10. making the folks living up there unhappy about possibly losing their homes and land.

It may not happen. Several mayors down here were looking to widen US-90 from 4 lanes total, to 3 lanes each way, but lots of folks got upset at that to. If they had decided to do it, US-90 would still be closed.
