Oh dear, have I been rude again ...? As a matter of fact, I am not against using simulations as such - I think that correctly applied simulation technology is an excellent tool. The point is that you need to be aware of the limitations of simulation, and that you do need experimental verification. Breaking the laws of physics can be very simple in simulation ... That's my take on it as well, but not everyone would agree. A friend of mine has done some very good work on the physics of waves. At one time he was heavily involved in research on water waves with the aim of developing wave-power powerstations. This included experimental work to verify calculations - i.e. a big water basin with data logging equipment, and of course video recording equipment. He is fond of telling this story of when he had a visit from a leading theoretical physicist in the field. My friend: Do you want to see a movie about water waves? Where is balance Academic priorities 292 I don't think the creationalists have analyzed what lies down the path of state religous teachings in a country as religously, ethnically and... Visitor: Are there any mathematics in it? My friend: No, but it is still good to see the experiment. Visitor: Or better still, to think about it ... Where is balance Academic priorities 291 I'm glad we at least agree that it's a problem. Now how such an obvious flaw could be ignored in implementing statewide or nationwide testing is beyong me.
