But this is NOT conventional warfare...they were not attempting to "conquer" America by "invasion"...their purpose was to - as their name entirely denotes - TERRORISE Americans...to send Americans into panic and fear...that, as has happened, America would start surrendering her Liberty left, right and centre in a rushed panic...that it would suspend, disrupt and put a stop to "business as usual"...that Americans would, indeed, increasingly KEEP OUT out of certain countries, fearing for their lives...that, in panic, leaders would start banging the drums of war...the citizenry would surrender their Liberty and democracy - their "civilisation", REGRESSING back towards "8th century" law and political rule - in fear for their lives...

Thus far, America has, unfortunately, reacted in exactly the fashion the persons were trying to PROVOKE America into reacting...they didn't sit around thinking: "well, we'll just destroy these buildings and kill 3,000 people...but America won't, you know, do anything in retaliation"...on the contrary, they WANTED that "retaliation"...they WANTED "war"...

They WANTED to divide America (and, in the 2004 election, America was never more polarised in history...except for, obviously, the "Civil War")...

They WANTED Bush to "overreact" (and, in setting up the Guantanamo concentration camp - with stories (it doesn't particularly matter if they are true or not: If Muslims believe they are true, then they will react accordingly regardless) of "tortures" that not only humilate the prisoners but humilate ISLAM, humilate ALLAH Himself...stories that, after Abu Grahib, no-one will believe any "denials" from America about, as, there, this was SEEN to be the case categorically - Bush has created an "injustice" for all the world to see...and the Islamic world sees it humilate ISLAM, humilate their BELIEFS, humilate ALLAH HIMSELF, humilate the KORAN (which is the direct Word of Allah; So, peeing on it is interpreted as peeing on all of Islam, peeing on God Himself, in Islamic eyes)...

Which has EMPOWERED these persons more than they could possibly imagine...there were not particularly many of these religious fantatical Islamic fundamentalists...indeed, they had tried to incite "revolution" in the buttbuttination of Egyptian President Sadat...they thought that their Muslim brothers would take to the streets to reclaim Egypt to Fundamentalist Islam (Sadat had an "open door" policy to the West)...they were wrong...their opinion was NOT the majority opinion of Muslims at all...

On the contrary, when they could not incite their fellow Muslims to "revolution" to take back their countries to fundamentalist Islamic rule...well, this is when they "change tactic"...

They could not stop the spread of "Jahelia" (this is the word they use to denote what is considered the "disease" of Western values that they believe was "infecting" their Islamic homelands and "corrupting" it from "True Islam" to, you know, Hollywood movies, democracies, Coca-cola, jeans and cheeseburgers...why these fundamentalists consider these things "anti-Islamic" is a complete mystery, though, as the Koran promotes education, science, technology and the like...check out the "Multimedia Supercorridor" or "Cyberjaya" (literally "Cyber City") and their policies of eliminating tax on "technology companies", that the Malaysian government is whole-heartedly committing the country to, in order to promote their country as the Asain centre of modern technology...an Asian "Sillicon Valley", if you like...Malaysia is an Islamic country and it finds NO CONFLICT - as there is NONE - between Islam and the modern world...indeed, in times past, it was the Muslims who lead the world in science and technology...gunpowder, superior metal working to bring legend to their "indestructable" curved scimitar blades, etc....the Koran actively promotes education and knowledge very whole-heartedly...ONLY these few "fundamentalists" - and as with all fundamentalists, they have very weird and unconventional "viewpoints" - seem to be able to divine anything else from Allah's Word)...

Anyway, they could not stop the spread of "Jahelia" entering from the West into their Islamic homelands...an attempt to incite "revolution" against those leaders (like Sadat, who was buttbuttinated for this reason) who had allowed the West and "Jahelia" to "infect" their countries FAILED...miserably...they envisaged the streets full of their Muslim brothers, who would reclaim their homeland back to this fundamentalist vision of "true Islam"...the streets were silent...no-one shared their "vision"...they did NOT represent the majority of Islamic opinon (which IS fundamentally a "religion of peace" at its heart...note that though they do not accept Jesus as the Son of God, He IS accepted as a "prophet" in Islam...yes, you can "selectively" pull out some lines from the Koran that seem "violent"...but, come on, like you can't also do that with the Old Testament too)...

Hence, the "change of tactic" was rather simple: If they could not stop it spreading into their country, then they would attack the problem at its "root"...they declared war on America herself...and, with 9-11, they finally succeeded (an earlier attempt in 1992 on the WTC had failed) in a successful "strike"...due in part, it must be stressed, to complacency on the part of the American adminstration, as they did officially announce their intention to attack America quite publicly...and the intelligence on this was placed into a report: "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside America"...which Bush never actually read...

Of course, hindsight is always 20-20 vision...it's easy to criticise, knowing the information was basically there - if someone had just taken it seriously enough to properly "join the dots" - but that complacency had made it be ignored...BUT, considering this information related to persons who had made strikes (U.S.S. Cole, American embbutties in Africa, previous attempt on WTC, etc.), I do feel there is some legitimacy in criticism of the level of complacency shown...Bush repeatedly put off meetings on the issue, to go to "fund raisers" and play golf...there's complacency...and there's major incompetency and willfull neglect...

I sat transfixed on the pictures in the news on September the 11th, 2001...it was half a world away but my body shivered - as if I was in the middle of some Siberian Winter in a bikini - uncontrollably...I was sick to the stomach...head spinning...I jumped out of my skin whenever the reporters or anything even suggested more was to come (there were some fleeting reports - in all the panic - of things like vans being parked next to buildings...turned out to be nothing, in the end...but, in all the panic, no-one knew what was really going on)...I saw one tower billowing with smoke...no-one was sure if it might have been a tragic accident...the reporter babbeling, presuming such, as no-one could believe, at that point, this could have been delibrate...but there was a terrible, terrible feeling in considering that it very well may have been...and then a blur darted into shot and smashed into the second tower...I don't know why but it's that bright orange colour in the centre of the explosion...that bright orange colour just completely dominated what I saw...bright orange surrounded by grey...I let out an odd noise, without thought, as if I didn't know whether to scream, cry, shout "f***" or whatever...some confusion of all those possibilities happened instead...I did not leave that television set...could not...later, in that period of eternity where no-one knew if it had only just started or ended or if there was more coming or whatever, is the only time I changed channel...to find an American channel (CNN; It's the only American news channel I have)...this may seem odd but it was as if I wanted to be with you, if that makes any sense...but, half a world away, this was as close as I could get to that...futile...helpless...pathetic...there was no life that day...I recognised that silence, that emptiness...the exact same feeling as when a family member died...there is no "you" that day...trying to recall, it's as if all your memories are viewed through a magnifying glbutt...I remember, oddly, staring at the wall behind the TV...that bright orange image is all there is, the rest of the picture isn't there...as if "zoomed in"...looking through that magnifying glbutt...

It was a horrible day...it coincided with a change in my own life...and it was as if one life had ended that day and another one had begun...the phrase "post-9-11 world" - though continually abused everywhere, even to sell carpets or shampoo (i.e. "in this post 9-11 world, hair care products take on more significance...buy our magic shampoo!"...vile, commercial "anyone's whore" crap) - actually rings true, in a way...

But the smell of the dead does not only bring the vultures...the fascists seize their chance too...Le Penn almost wins in France...the BNP's share of the vote rises...an Austrian neo-Nazi actually wins his election...the papers stoke the fires: "immigration", they chant...fascists create a climate where they can openly "sell their wares", where it would have been run out of town previously...

The wolves - like dogs - can smell the fear in the air itself...and they hunt Liberty down...
