snip ... If you look (and clbuttify) some of the various "insurgencies" I have seen (the clbuttifications are from my viewpoint at the time...
I am just thankful I haven't had to deal with this, and hope I go first. I don't think I could stand it otherwise.
Very true. There is the problem. We do not currently have a choice for any office in the country that meets that description. Every politician that understood what items needed to be attended to ardently are all long dead. What have now is two inner city gangs shooting at each other, while attempting to ruin the lives of everyone else in the 'city' that aren't part of either gang.
Sadly, the other crew has smelled the coffee, and found it is better to be elected and stay that way than it is to solve the problems that help them get elected as long as they exist.

Excuse for what? Defending ourselves or addressing a problem before it becomes a mess too big to fix? So? That's part of our political process. One side will push for its way; a second side...
It's very similar to why lobby groups don't want to really solve their main causes either. As soon as they do, they cease to be necessary.
And the other side's leaders are still pretending that taking rights away from law-abiding US citizens, sneak-and-peak warrants on little old ladies in Idaho, and stripping air travelers of their Medal of Honor ribbon for security reasons at airports will help 'protect us all' from some persons.
Both sides suck so hard it has apparently completely sucked the brains out of the bulk of the electorate. We need a new Teddy Roosevelt to stand up and be an actual leader, instead of a puppet or a poll-reader that still understands what the USC is all about, and why it was important. That's not going to happen, and if such a person did show up, the R's and D's would both take out a hit on him instantly.
