If you look (and clbuttify) some of the various "insurgencies" I have seen (the clbuttifications are from my viewpoint at the time):

Yugoslavia, 1940..1944 Good guys Israel, 1946..1948 Bivalent Hungary, 1953 Good guys Czechoslovakia, 1958? Good guys Ireland ongoing Bad guys Lebanon 1980?..1995? Bad guys Israel 1970?..now Bad guys Afghanistan 1980..1995 Good guys Afghanistan 2001.. Bad guys Iraq 2003.. Bad guys

and I have omitted at least Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Phillipines, and more. I won't even try to clbuttify Viet Nam. We could go further back and work on the US circa 1860, circa 1960, the Maquis in Canada, lots of "Indians" in the US, Cromwell, the Crusades, Huguenots. The point is that most of it is and was totally unnecessary and unproductive. We are an excessively combative set of naked apes.

At one time I had all eight sides from the Israel-Palestine and Irish problems sitting around my kitchen table swilling whisky and getting looped. Most had been directly involved. No mayhem ensued. Various wives got annoyed with me (I was still a bachelor).
