I don't think so, although possibly some were restored for Korea. Truman took over the steel mills to avert a strike; price controls were not an issue.

All the more reason, then, not to give the government any more power than the absolute minimum it needs.

And why Bush wants to make it permanent.

Note that Bush calls it a war on terrorism, not on al Qaeda. As long as anyone anywhere dislikes us enough to try to blow some of us up, the 'war' will continue. Since the war itself seems to create more recruits for the other side, it is self-perpetuating.

Nothing new there. Both parties and their predecessors have been doing that since Adams was president.
