Paul! You have returned! :)

I made an ASCII picture of a castle...did you see it?

I don't know...you ask for a "breastle screen"...I go and make one...and then you ran away!

Ah, this thread's gotten all big and messy now...

If you don't find them (there's one ASCII picture without a logo, one with a logo, one where I attempted "colour" with "ANSI sequences" - which was a bit crap, I thought - and then another one which has better "colour" BUT isn't "pure ASCII", so probably isn't useful...but because the first "colour" picture was crap, I wanted to "fix" it...problem is, it uses "box drawing characters" and things that aren't part of "pure ASCII"...so probably isn't useful, as it won't be as "compatible" :), then post again and I still have the files here somewhere to repost (perhaps via Email, so as not to annoy the already annoyed newsgroup participants? ;)...

Evenbit or of It's a castle! Everyone's gone inside! Its use as a "means of defence" would be slightly "compromised", if no-one actually...

I don't have a "dragon" in any of them, though...just a castle, some "hills" in the distance and a basic "logo" for the game...it is beyond my "ASCII artistry" to draw "dragons" in ASCII, I'm afraid...though, I have "left space" on the left of the picture for a dragon should you find one somewhere else that fits...just "paste" it on top...

P.S. Did you ever see my example program that re-programmed the BIOS fonts under DOS? Too lazy to come up with my own graphics (a tedious process with graph paper and Window calculator ;), I grabbed the "balloon" sprite graphic from the C64's user manual instead...re-programmed seven "high ASCII" characters as parts of the "balloon sprite" and then, hey presto, a balloon graphic in what's supposedly "text mode"!

Though it was never really used on the PC (everyone tends to just call the BIOS interrupts, which actually "overlooks" a whole load of graphical "tricks" that are possible with a VGA card using "direct access" programming like the C64 and Spectrum to do most of the graphics...called UDGs or "User Defined Graphics"...instead of using an actual real "bitmapped graphics" mode, you just re-programmed the appearances of the text characters and arranged them on the screen to form "platforms" or "ladders"...or, perhaps the "acme" of the UDG "art": Check out the isometric games like "Knightlore" or "Head over Heels"...which conjured up some pretty cool "pseudo-3D" graphics by exactly this method (and very careful planning :)...
