Because you're running a crepuscular old version of Windoze on a box won't even give you WWW access1...

They do if you count the ones flogged with PS-2 adaptors. :)

here in the UK). To be honest BAH, I suspect you should really be looking to migrate to a newer machine anyways... I figure a machine is good for 5 years solid use if it's cared for and well made, beyond that stuff starts to fall apart quite rapidly. I've gotten into the habit of keeping two machines of different age and components in full working order at any given time to minimise the chance of being left without a functioning system. My current dynamic duo are 3 and 6 years old. :)

Precisely why I use their optical one with the spotty red ball (ahem). No moving parts, hardly ever needs cleaning.

Never too late to learn. Easy to do, certainly easier than sewing anyways.

I'd do it today while you have access to lots of UNIX bigots, rather than waiting for your existing machine to die a sudden and unexpected rest first. Run them side by side would be my recommendation. If you have access to something like IRC or Messenger I'm sure some folks could give you some live help too.

Well, working hard and playing hard with little Internet access. I may be able to move my machine down to the place I'm living later in January. Even with that I probably won't be online much given my work-play patterns at the moment.

Cheers, Rupert -- Threading sequential code through the eye of a parallel needle makes little sense. ;)
