Ah. But these aren't regexps, and are far easier to use, since regexps never quite do what I want, and everything implements regexps slightly differently.

It's much easier and faster to say "1. memorize this sequence of keystrokes, 2. now do that sequence whenever I hit this key or sometimes until you hit the end of the file."

Sometimes I'll do most of it in a macro, type the variable part myself, then hit the macro key again.

This is something basic that I expect as part of a real editor.

Another problem with "regexps similar to Unix" is that I've never gotten that feature of Word to work right, and I've tried HARD when I'm stuck in Windows and a real computer isn't available for whatever reason. It's been bad enough that I've broken down and installed EMACS for Windows.

If I'm going to use "vi, egrep, sed, awk" then I'm just going to write a short Python script and not deal with the brokenness of all of the above.

One day a UNIX admin had a problem. Then he said "I know! I'll use sed!" then he had TWO problems.

Yes, and that shows that even in one program (grep) there's the brain damage of two different regexp parsers. My point is that everyone implements them slightly differently with...
