I'm not amazed. This is all basic computing common sense. If you want to run lean and mean, you do not put the 100 lb. kitchen sink in your backpocket.

Am I supposed to be amazed? You are asking me to be amazed every time the sun rises in the east rather than the north each morning. Good grief! Is this an aspect of computing usage that I didn't know I didn't know?

Exactly. It's being treated as an infinite resource with no limitations. This far-ranging side effects in all aspects of human life and living styles.

It's like the billionaire who has oodles of money but can't find the first quarter he saved. Knowledge and data loss will increase, I would guess, exponentially rather than the past linearly. Just as a guess, I think Lynn's lady, Anne, would understand this one. I'm not writing it well at all.

It has echoes in everything! Gut feel says this could be described using category theory, but I've been wrong before.

That's 4.9MB of modules, where are you getting 47MB? I compile as much as possible as modules. For instance, I only need...

It shouldn't be difficult. Olde timesharing was able to do that and determine when to "shut down" a port as flakey.

Then practicing on a non-PC would produce a more objective approach of the programmer. I don't know how he thinks, so I can't tell how to help him look at the problem.
