The only drawback is that the representatives (where "represent" is political-speak for "rule over") add a layer of insulation from the people. Every system has its drawbacks.

People in CA do too, but keep voting to repeal gravity. I'd take PBS with a grain of salt here. They're clearly in the D, or more precisely far leftist, column. But they don't get...

With huge budgets and a guarantee that the game will go on forever. Sounds like a win-win situation for those on top.

But unemployment among those who build and guard prisons won't be among those problems. Plus the law'n'order crowd will be getting their jollies. Again, a win-win situation - if you're in the right group.

Many of us here in western Canada agree with you. I used to think that we should have as one of the conditions of secession that they take 25% of the national debt with them. I've since been convinced that this isn't necessary; it'll only slow down the process while everyone argues about it. Besides, we'll save so much by not having to suck up to them all the time that it'll be a net gain even if we let them off without paying a cent.

Of course. There is no such thing as a perfect program. The same is much more true when you have people involved (which is what politics is all about). Even Mbuttachusetts' citizens...

I do worry about what would happen to the Maritimes, though...
