sorting was: The System360 Model 20 Wasn't As Bad As All That 3894says... VP approval was normal at the time. The '70s were *bad* economically. They certainly in the fall plan - I put them there. The necessary 9600bps modems were $10K a pair, and we allotted three terminals per 3270 and modem. ...and were happy with that. ;-) Yep. Our group already had ours. I saw to it. ;-) Five years later, when I moved to CCP one of the managers said something to the effect of "my engineers don't need terminals; they're not secretaries". They didn't have any in the fall plan (I *didn't* put them there). When the hardware (PC's by that time) came in, his engineers were PO'd that they weren't getting any; "see your manager". which was why it was such an ungodly mess. Consistency anyone? sorting was: The System360 Model 20 Wasn't As Bad As All That 3895 says... You must not have taken a tour of the P'ok manufacturing line in '76 or so. Instead of 30-40 systems in final test there may have been one or two, all destined for the... ;-) Good plan. Were these pre or post-Rolm phones? I'm sure we still have two- decade-old ROLM garbage still around. Single-duplex speaker phones in conference rooms, anyone? I always wondered what would happen if our customers saw how we used our hardware. Sure. It didn't happen too much in our group though. I made sure to "sell" the garbage no one else wanted to the managers. It sounded good too; "here is your new 3270AT". ;-) People were wondering why I kept my PC, EU, and dual monitors. Three months later I had a model 80 with all the goodies. Hey, I had to get something out of all the work buffaloing the counters of beans ("what lies do you want to hear this year"). -- Keith
