I think this is what's meant by the term "being in violent agreement". :-) I didn't mean GUI design, but the user interfaces themselves. Nowadays, if you don't have lots of blinking lights, morphing graphics, scrolling text, etc. ad nausaeum, J. Random Luser will think your interface is boring. The fact that the glitz gets in the way is not a factor. Sad but true. And it isn't limited to computer screens. Television eagerly embraces these techniques. It starts with the network logo that defaces the bottom right-hand corner of the screen in most shows, and culminates in news and sports broadcasts, where a letterboxed widescreen image would barely leave enough room for all of the extraneous junk. It's everywhere else, too. Local buses have turned into moving billboards. It's now considered right and proper (at least by the ruling clbuttes) for us to be plantarded with advertising 24 hours a day, no matter where we look.
