Bill Gunshannon I remember a 4 party line at one time. But I also remember when I picked up a phone I heard some woman ask "number please". Dial phones came to this area in the late 50's. Time-Warner in this area has. There's a big sell on TV (analog or digital), telephone service and internet service all on the cable. Haven't tried it. I already have three wire phone lines into the house, one is mine and the other two, one with DSL, is provided by my employer. However I was told when it was installed that the DSL service is "on the edge" as I'm too far from the local switch. Seems to work OK though. I've heard some local "horror stories" about the cable internet service in the area. I was told some 15 years ago by an officer of our (then local) phone company that until the "last mile" problem was solved, the wire phone companies were in trouble. There was too much invested in the "last mile" facilities to ever completely upgrade it. Although the wire plant I'm connected to is only about 20 years old, about half of my neighbors no longer have wire service, just cell phones (and, of course, cable TV). I don't see any hurtin' around here in the cable company. In fact they just raised their rates. (I'm the only one in the neighborhood who is not connected to the cable, something that seems to pee off the cable company as they periodically send someone to my door to try and sell me some service, any service, and the flood of junk mail from them offering me service is atrocious.)
