that was POK and the majority of the customer base. however, a lot of virtual machines, virtual memory, paging, interactive computing, networking, multiprocessor and other stuff was done at the science center

the technology for the internal network was developed at the science center. the internal network was larger than the arpanet-internet from just about the beginning until possibly mid-85.

the technology used in the internal network was also used in bitnet & earn

gml (precusor to sgml, html, xml, etc) was invented at the science center

the invention of the compare&swap instruction was invented by charlie at the science center (CAS comes from charlie's initials and then had to come up with an instruction name that matched charlie's initials)

a lot of the work on performance monitoring and workload profiling leading up to capacity planning was also done at the science center

while the original relational stuff wasn't done at the science center ... i did get to work on some of it after i transferred from the science center out to research on the west coast. however, all of the original relational-sql stuff was developed on vm370 ... which was on outgrowth of the virtual machine cp67 stuff that had originated at the science center

note that while the virtual machine and interactive install base was considered relatively small compared to the big batch customer base ... there was some numbers that in the early 80s, the 4341 vm370 install base was approximately the same size as the vax install base (even tho the 4341 vm370 install base was considered almost trivially small compared to the batch install base).
