Exceptions are those who view a programming job as nothing more than a stepping-stone to a management position. Once they've moved on (as quickly as they can), the real programmers (many of whom have no interest in going into management) have to clean up the messes that these pseudo-programmers have left behind; their coding is usually atrocious.

And finally, claim that you knew all along that it wouldn't work - but that the next one will be far better.

That's the problem with preventive measures - if they work, nothing happens. Many managers can't tell the difference between this and goofing off.

On the other hand, as Barbara Bush pointed out, those people are all underprivileged anyway, and they're better off now.

And often, this isn't really that much of a hardship. Unless you're a marketroid trying to peddle the latest piece of fluff. But I often try to remember back 30 years - or even 20 - and think of how well we did without dozens of things which now are considered eseential to life itself.

And meanwhile, they'll hire armies of copyright and patent lawyers to go after anyone else who tries to do the same thing.

I think we may be talking at cross purposes here. Your description of people being rewarded even though they did no work is what I meant by "excessive concern for political correctness leads people...

At least until people are re-educated to believe that fulfillment consists of nothing more than being handed wads of money (even as it's being clawed back by taxes, special deductions, user fees, etc.).

Dunno. History tells us that even revolutions provide only temporary relief. As soon as the new ruling clbuttes become too comfortable, they turn into clones of the one ones and the cycle starts anew.
