winscape 2305winscape 2306 Well, it (the previous two paragraphs) is an interesting experiment anyway, and IMO not really less clear than DECese for those us without the proper grounding in the DEC... Cold start. You take a set of computer hardware that has no bits set on anything. You take a set of media that has some bit patterns stored on them. You go through a process that take the bit patterns stored on the media, transmits them to the set of computer hardware pieces in such a way that a push of the power button cause an OS and all its attendant software to run and be available for anybody to use. Almost cold start. The bit patterns that move to the set of computer hardware pieces do not have to be made by the installer before movement. This is what you guys get when I try strip all DECese out of my sentences. I think my old is always clearer :-. Not good business practice if you intend to do long-term business with each user and your future business requires an educated customer. People who have only worked with PCs for the last five years are also subject to PCitis. Thinking within a PC context has become automated and a habit of work. I detect this thinking style in a lot of people who know loads of stuff. It is the habit of the work they do. Once upon a time I was working with a guy who had so immersed himself with doing things using octal numbers, he automatically did his checking account with octal numbers and didn't realize it until he balanced the bank statement. That month he had Octalitis. BAH
