winscape 2307It is not an experiment. It was and is reality. This (cold start) is the most important piece of knowledge that is rapidly getting forgotten.
No, there isn't any on-the-fly because there is no code running anywhere. There no file systems; no comm; no device drivers, no data, no code, nothing. It can't decide anything; there is no code running. It's one of the most important items, IMO. Then you should have been in a BS session when we were designing or developing out loud. Computer bit gods are pickier about language than any other group I know. Not might; it does. It is how people work. winscape 2310 These are guesses. Plug'n play implementations. It also seems that you never really got to learn enough about how things get developed in the time you spend in the non-academic world. Very few of our people learned how DEC did its business. They usually expected the grunts to make sure everything would run smoothly so they could get their work done. This is how it should be. That's what we would call a lab. Your policies, procedures, and staff would be very different if your site was funded based on providing all the college its computing service. This absence of constraints leaves a big gap in the education of those CS types. They will never learn thinking techniques that imagine all the various the viewpoints of users until they've plunged into the middle of it at their first job. winscape 2308 snip When I said "experiment", I was referring to "this is what you guys get when I try to strip all DECese out of my sentences...
