No. Not when the code is loaded as a user mode program. IOW, this code is does not have a requirement to be resident at all times. Plug'nplay devices have forced the device drivers to move from the well-protected kernel nest to the outside world of user mode code. This is why there has been a request to have a ring that gives a devloper similar nest protections as it would have if built as an intricate part of the kernal.

I was thinking more of plug in device in some random computer requesting Driver 10-ABCDE-v20834-59872-023. The monitor retrieves it from the internet, starts it up, and begins servicing the newly plugged in.

Sure. So? TOPS-10 would let you execute anything and do anything you wanted to do...but ONLY to yourself. It made sure that you didn't do it to anybody else on the system including the monitor.

That is a very, very, very easy hole to plug. The fact that this happens at all is because Micpoo refuses to remove its backdoors.

ROTFLMAO. Yep, that's exactly how compiler thinkers view the world.

This is a device driver not an application. That depends on the architecture of the OS. Most device drivers have to be intimate with the kernal in...

Yup. I'm a happy little program just executing my buns off. Then I call a subrouting that requests a Java applet which is out in the world wide network because it happens to be a piece of code that has to be maintained and modified often and is also protected under various flavors of copyright or prorprietary or that license which duct tapes everybody's hands.

applets that can be copied when needed. This is also going to be including data. I don't see any other way to have a global, paperless banking system for us dirty mbuttes.

Sorry, I think I've tread-drifted further than left field. I've been thinking a lot about what happens when the wireless telecomms buy out the banks.
