A few years ago I had a program that would make a "ding" when someone viewed my webcam (remember webcams?). It was just pointed at my yard, so I could see who came to my door, but people could look at it from anywhere. The Windows sound routines would steal a couple of bytes every time the ding went off, and eventually I would run out of memory. I spoke with people at the webcam site (now defunct) and they said Microsoft acknowledged it was a flaw, but never said they were going to fix it. This was 4-5 years ago now, so I was probably using Win98.

Backed up? I just get a new (bigger) hard disk every so often and stack the old one with the others. They are like giant floppy disks. Once in a while I put the bottom one in a new machine to hold my ghosts, or music, but I can go back several years by just plugging the old drive into a cart (I have a bay with a removable cartridge).

Agreed. When people ask me how to uninstall this or that I try to explain that they need to reinstall from scratch. It's amazing how people resist this simple idea. After 4-5 years I finally got my girlfriend to buy into it, but it just sounds so horrific to most people. :-)
